April Fitness IQ Test

Each month we will be posting quizzes to test your health IQ. Knowing what your habits are now, is the first step toward a healthier lifestyle. As we approach summer, here's a quiz to see your current fitness level. In future months we will quiz you on your work habits and your self-care habits.

Read the following statements and place a check in the left-hand column if the entry describes your current activity. Give yourself 2 checks for items 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9.

___ 1. Do aerobic activity (dancing, jogging, brisk walking, swimming, biking, zumba, etc) at least 2 times per week

___ 2. Do aerobic activity (dancing, jogging, brisk walking, swimming, biking, zumba, etc) at least 4 times per week.

___ 3. Walk or ride a bicycle regularly for transportation or on the job.

___ 4. Climb stairs rather than ride elevators.

___ 5. Spend at least half of my day expending moderate physical effort (such as gardening, house cleaning, child care, carpentry).

___ 6. Spend at least half of my day expending intense physical effort (fitness trainer, farming, construction work, etc).

___ 7. Participate in strenuous sport once per week (such as basketball, soccer, tennis, etc.)

___ 8. Participate in strenuous sport at least 3 times per week (such as basketball, soccer, tennis, etc).

___ 9. Engage in a stretching or limbering exercise for 15 minutes at least 3 times per week.

Total all of the checks in the response blanks.
0-4 -- Your present activity level is not enough for balance and/or benefit.
5-9 -- Activity appears to be a regular part of your life and you are probably getting good benefit and balance from it. Increase your physical activity depending on your body needs and personal desires.
10-14 -- Your activity level is well above average, indicating that you are receiving maximum benefit and balance. Deal with burnout potential by maintaining variety in your activities and by balancing exercise with other priorities.
